The time spans from morning until evening on an ordinary day in the life of a mother named Helen. It all happens in her kitchen. There's a child at home from school with a cold, a teenaged daughter's drama, a visit from grandma, chicken soup simmering and corn bread baking so that the audience can actually smell it. A recipe for chicken soup (and the raising of children) is revealed as part of the plot. Helen prepares the soup with a little help from the other characters, and they all share a family dinner together at the end. It's a feel good experience for all.
